The Worst Trouble Ever
by Chelcie Lewis

The worst time I got in trouble was when I was in 4th grade; I got in trouble for running in the school from a bunch of boys, their names were Jose, Adrian, Devin, Aaron, T.J, KaVandre and Jermell. My friends Arianna, Nya, Dominique, Karla, Mikeya, Brittany, and I were chasing them at recess: We were playing a game that we made up, in the game there are two teams (usually boys vs. girls) and each person has one person to chase, but one person could be chasing me but I’m supposed to be chasing another person. If you get caught you have to do something that you hate to do, for me it was basketball. Anyways, we were winning until they asked for a time out. After they called for the time out they got together in a tight circle and about five minutes later they said they were ready. Then they each got in one place that was called their “starting point” which is a place where you have to start. The boys didn’t start at the places that they usually did, at first we didn’t know what was going on, then I saw that they were standing in a circle around us. Since Nya was the only one who was close enough to hear me I yelled to her that they were standing in a circle, she told Arianna who was the team leader, but Arianna didn’t know what to do, so she gave the signal to start the game.
Five into the game Nya was the first person to be caught by Jose. Nya hated football so she had to throw a football fifteen times to get back in the game. Before Nya started she looked at Arianna who held up five fingers which meant for Nya to throw the football at Jose’s head instead of through the tree branches. The first time Nya threw the ball at Jose’s head she said it was an accident, the second time she said it was his fault because he couldn’t catch. After Nya threw the ball fifteen times she was back in the game. Dominique was the second person to get caught, she really hated soccer. Again she looked at Arianna who gave her five fingers. This time it meant that Dominique was suppose to pretend like she was kicking the ball but instead she was to kick Devin in the leg. So the first time Dominique kicked the ball into the goal the second time she kicked Devin in the knee, she made the goal three more times but after that she kept kicking Devin in the leg.
After Dominique got back in the game I was caught by Aaron. Now I already knew what I had to do but didn’t want to because I had never been chased by Aaron who had an anger management problem. But I did it anyway because he was my one of my best friends and usually didn’t get mad at me. So when I got the basketball I purposely made the first basket and I didn’t plan on having the second shot hit him in the head but it did, So I made my next three but the next two hit Aaron in the head, and that’s when he realized that I was doing it on purpose. At first he moved out of the way but that didn’t work to well. By then Arianna had been caught by Adrian, she had to do basket ball too. When she came over she took the ball from me and threw it at Jermell who turned around and came running at her, then I stuck out my foot and he tripped. He got up, but he wasn’t hurt. KaVandre saw this and picked up a soccer ball and threw it at me and missed but I still ran after him anyway. Mikeya saw him running towards her and she pushed him and he fell backwards, we laughed and then ran away. We stopped by a tree which was called the “safe tree #1” and looked around for the other girls, then we saw Karla running from T.J. towards the basketball court, we saw Nya throwing every ball she could find at the group of boys standing around Arianna, Karla, Dominique, and Brittany. So Mikeya ran over to help Arianna and the other girls with the boys and went to help Nya throw balls at them. Then we looked up and saw Arianna hit Jermell in the back of his head then she started running we saw her hold up one finger and we all knew what that meant.
When Arianna held up that one finger we knew it was time to run for our lives. The finger meant that we had to run with someone inside the school. Each girl had to run away with someone from her group but we all had to run in different directions. Nya and I were supposed to run in on the preschool side go up the steps and across the main office. Karla and Brittany had to run in the on the same side but go up to the second floor. Arianna, Mikeya, and Dominique had to run in on the gym side up the steps and down the stairs by the 3rd grade classes. Whatever way we went we all ended up in the girls’ bathroom by the lunch room. When we finally made it to the bathroom we were stuck in there because the boys followed us and we couldn’t get out. So we sat in the bathroom for about ten minutes until finally we heard one of the boys yell run and then it became quite. Then we heard the door knob turn and we did what we usually did, Arianna, Nya, and I went into the stalls and pretended we were using the toilet, Dominique and Karla pretended like they were washing their hands, and Mikeya and Brittany acted like they were waiting to use the toilet.
When the door opened we all held our breath. Then we heard a lady ask what we were doing. When I came out of the stall I saw that it was the gym teacher Ms. Heritage. She then asked again what we were doing; we each said we were using the bathroom. She almost believed us but then she looked at Dominique who was breathing so hard you could see her chest moving.
“Why are you breathing so hard? Are you okay?” asked Ms. Heritage.
“Yeah.” Dominique answered.
Ms. Heritage looked at all of us again and this time she noticed that all of us were breathing hard.
“What are you all doing in here? And tell the truth.”
No one said anything.
“Okay then all of you have to go to Ms. Clay’s office.”
After she took us to Ms. Clay’s office we had to sit outside her office because she wasn’t there. When she finally got to her office she looked surprised to see all of us.
“What did ya’ll do?” She asked us.
“Nothing.” We all said.
“Then why are you here?”
As soon as she said that we all started talking at the same time. Nobody could really understand us, we could barely hear ourselves talk because Ms. Heritage was blowing her whistle trying to quite us, but it wasn’t working. We continued to talk and yell over each other, and then all of a sudden Ms. Clay yelled
“Hey! Be quite please. Now, one at a time.”
After we each told our stories she said she wasn’t going to call our parents because what we were doing was normal, but she said if we ever did it again she would put us in ISS.
The next day everything was fine until the Vice Principal came and got us. At first we all were thinking Ms. Clay told on us. After we got in his office, he told us we all were getting write-ups. When we asked why he told us that when we were hiding in the restroom yesterday a boy (Jermell) slipped and fell on some water by the water fountain and hit his head, he wasn’t very hurt her just had a bump on his head.
“How is that our fault?” asked Arianna.
“Yeah, it ain’t our fault he slipped.” Said Nya.
“If you hadn’t have been playing so rough they wouldn’t have ran after you and Jermell wouldn’t have slipped on the water.” Said the Vice Principal.
After he had written us all up he called each of our parents. When it was my turn to call nobody answered I thought I was safe from getting in trouble. Well I thought wrong. When I got home my grannie was very angry. She wouldn’t let me talk on the phone, go shopping, so to the movies, nothing.

Afterwards I learned that running from a bunch of boys wasn’t worth missing out on shopping, which I love to do.
